Wet snow brings multiple inches of accumulation to metro

DENVER (KDVR) — Wednesday is a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day as snow continues to fall across the metro and Front Range.

As the Pinpoint Weather team forecast, multiple inches of snow have already coated roads. Conditions are slick and dicey. If you don’t have to drive on Wednesday, it will be best to stay home and off the roads.

This storm could bring up to 10 inches of snow to the Denver metro before coming to an end by Wednesday afternoon.

FOX31 has crews all over the state tracking the snow and road conditions. This story will be updated with the latest information throughout the day.

12:45 a.m. FlightAware is reporting 300 delays out at DIA and 271 cancellations.

11:30 a.m. I-25 southbound is closed due to a crash at 144th Avenue. According to Westminster police, a semi-truck is involved but no injuries have been reported.

11:09 a.m. FlightAware has updated flights out of DIA, and so far 173 flights have been delayed with 264 canceled.

9:47 a.m. The Denver Zoo will be closed today as a majority of the animals need to remain in their indoor habitats.

9:42 a.m. Westminster is on an accident alert.

9:01 a.m. The City of Thornton is on accident alert. Officers are urging drivers to take extra caution.

8:53 a.m. Traffic alert: C-470 westbound at U.S.85/Sante Fe has multiple crashes at the bottom of the hill. Colorado State Patrol said a patrol car was hit as well. Thankfully no injuries were reported.

8:40 a.m. The City of Brighton is on accident alert as snow continues to fall until the mid-day hours.

8:30 a.m. The snow continues to impact flights out at DIA. According to FlightAware, DIA has had 58 delays and 262 cancellations. Of those cancellations, 139 of those are Southwest flights.

7:40 a.m. Wondering about your trash collection? So far, the City of Lone Tree said that Waste Connections intends to pick up today while the City of Arvada will delay trash pick up until tomorrow. Commerce City and Lafayette will also be on a one-day delay for pick up.

7:15 a.m. Eastern colorado is not only dealing with snow, but they are also experiencing ice and wind. The road and bridge crews are out plowing, use caution when traveling.

6:57 a.m. Denver is on crash alert, be careful if you have to leave the house today.

6:39 a.m. According to the Pinpoint Weather team, Denver has already measured 7.7 inches of snowfall out at Denver International Airport. Check out preliminary snow totals so far.

6:19 a.m. According to RTD, weather conditions are causing delays on most metro routes. Expect to wait up to 45 minutes.

5:50 a.m. Adverse conditions continue to affect southwest Colorado. CDOT has closed some highways in that area. They urge drivers to not use county or secondary roadways to bypass closures:

5:26 a.m. City of Centennial is now on accident alert as road conditions continue to worsen.

4:30 a.m. According to FlightAware, 33 flights out of Denver International Airport have been delayed and 262 have already been canceled.

4:15 a.m. Thousands of kids are on a snow day Wednesday as most of the major school districts are closed due to the snow. Districts like Adams 12, Aurora, Boulder Valley, Cherry Creek, Denver Public and Jeffco schools are closed. To see a full list, check out the closures and delays.

4:10 a.m. A winter storm warning is in effect for multiple northeastern cities where the wind is creating poor visibility and blizzard conditions. The Colorado Department of Transportation has closed the following highways due to adverse conditions:

4:00 a.m. The following cities and counties are on an accident alert. This means if you are involved in a minor crash, do not call police unless the crash involves injuries, impairment, and uninsured vehicles.
