DENVER — The National Weather Service in Boulder confirmed Thursday that a tornado touched down in east Denver and west Aurora during Wednesday’s vicious storm.
The weather service said the tornado traveled 2.8 miles and had wind speeds up of 86 mph to 90 mph from 4:48 p.m. to 5:10 p.m., classifying it as an EF1 at its strongest point.
The tornado first touched down near East Sixth Avenue and Quebec Street, then moved east-northeast across Lowry into the west part of Aurora. It lifted near Mount Nebo Memorial Park.
Most of the damage was caused when the tornado, which had a width of less than 50 yards, was in the EF0 range. Tornadoes are ranked on the Fujita scale, from EF0 on the low end to EF5 as the strongest.
More severe weather is possible Thursday in Denver.
