DENVER — Snow began falling in the Colorado mountains Tuesday and on its way to Denver and the Front Range.

Snow will become widespread in the high country with as much as 6-12 inches over the northern mountains. Track the storm’s progress here.

Winter storm watches and warnings are posted for tough travel Tuesday night into Wednesday.  We expect a brief rain shower late Tuesday evening along with some thunder before it changes over to all snow in Denver.

The snow will turn heavy in bands from about 2 a.m. until 8 a.m.  The morning drive will be slushy and slow so plan extra time. It will be very windy as well which will cause blowing and drifting especially east of Denver past the airport on the open plains.

Denver International Airport reported late Tuesday afternoon that about 50 flights had already been canceled for early Wednesday. Check your flight status if you are flying out of Denver.

A Blizzard Warning is posted on the Plains for winds that will gust to 50 mph.

Total snow looks to be about 2-3 inches from the west side of metro Denver into downtown.

Expect higher totals as you go east of downtown with a 4-7 inch range.  The south side of town across the Palmer Divide will have between 3-6 inches.

Post your storm photos to our Facebook page.

Again, the wind will be the big factor with reduced visibility and bitter wind chills early on Wednesday.

The storm will quickly exit the state and we are looking for some sunshine to return during the afternoon Wednesday.  The rest of the week and weekend looks sunny with rising temperatures.   We are now tracking even more snow for next Tuesday.
