OURAY, Colo. — The drive along U.S. Highway 550 in the area of Red Mountain Pass in southwestern Colorado is incredibly scenic, and for some, even scary — on a clear day.

But what about when the rain is dumping as in the video Silverton Grocery shared?

The storm caused some unnerving waterfalls along the highway on Sunday.

Ron Trujillo of Ouray saw the video and wrote to say it was recorded at what is known as Ruby Cliffs, about three miles south of Ouray in the Uncompahgre Gorge. It’s 10 miles north of Red Mountain Pass.

Trujillo said the storm was a “big, noisy cloudburst.”

He said about 1.2 inches of rain and hail fell in 90 minutes.
