DENVER — Snow is likely in the mountain of Colorado the next few days, particularly in the southern part of the state. There will be occasional periods of sunshine between snow bands.
For the Plains and Denver metro areas, expect mostly sunshine for Friday and Saturday. Any chance of snow is low through next week.
A storm will slide through on Christmas, but unless it moves about 50 to 100 miles to the south of its current path, don’t expect much precipitation in the greater Denver area.
The mountains and northeastern Plains will have the best chance of snow from that system.
Winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories are in effect across the southwest corner of the state. Areas in the San Juan Mountains could see as much as 8-16 inches of snow.
Resorts and towns along the Interstate 70 corridor could see 5-10 inches of snow.
Sunshine returns Friday and Saturday with highs in the upper 40s and lower 50s expected both days in metro Denver.
It only snows on Christmas in Denver about 15 percent of the time. Having at least 1 inch of snow on the ground on Dec. 25 happens about 38 percent of the time.
