Police: Speeding driver crashed into Subaru causing deadly rollover on I-225

AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — The Aurora Police Department says one person died following a rollover crash on Thursday morning.

It happened at Interstate 225 and 6th Ave. around 5:30 a.m.

Witnesses told police the Subaru Outback involved in the crash was being driven in the far left lane of I-225 northbound when a dark colored SUV that was traveling in the center lane merged left and made contact with the front end of the Subaru.

This caused the driver of the Subaru to lose control and crash while the other driver continued without stopping.

The northbound lanes of I-225 were closed at Alameda for several hours. The interstate reopened around 8:30 a.m.

Police are asking for anyone who may have seen the crash or the dark SUV involved or who may have dash cam footage of either vehicle involved to contact the Aurora Police Traffic Investigations Unit or Metro Denver Crime Stoppers.

A reward of up to $2,000 is being offered for information related to this crash.

The driver of the Subaru was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office once family has been notified.
