DENVER (KDVR) — The Colorado Department of Transportation says the Denver West bridge is back open following a crash on the bridge over Interstate 70 early Thursday morning.
CDOT said a commercial vehicle struck one of the girders around 6 a.m. causing a full closure of eastbound I-70 and the bridge as a safety precaution.
During an inspection, CDOT bridge engineers found minor damage to one of multiple girders supporting the bridge.
Once crews were able to determine the structure is safe, eastbound I-70 reopened.
However, the right lane of the southbound bridge deck will be closed for an extended period. The damage will be repaired under an emergency contract in the coming weeks.
