JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — Update: The person who died in a crash on 6th Avenue early Friday morning has been identified as 24-year-old Brisia Leon.

Guillermo Ramirez, 18, was in the Chevrolet Malibu with Leon. He is still in the hospital with serious injuries.

Police have not determined which person was the driver.

The three people: two women, ages 71 and 50, and one 32-year-old man in the 2003 Chevrolet Suburban suffered serious injuries and are still in the hospital. The 71-year-old female suffered the most severe injuries.

The crash happened before 5 a.m. Friday morning and involved two vehicles.

CSP said a silver Chevrolet Malibu was eastbound on 6th Avenue when it sped past a Golden police officer going in the same direction at what the officer believes was well over 90 mph.

The officer was going to attempt to pull the vehicle over, but according to CSP, the driver ran a red light at Colfax Avenue and crashed into an SUV, which then burst into flames.

Three people got out of the SUV on their own, but a fire extinguisher was needed to put out flames on two of them.

A total of five people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. One of the victims, a passenger in the suspected speeding vehicle, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Lyft driver Bob Gunning came upon the accident and said he saw a heroic officer trying to help people in trouble.

Gunning said the officer laid them on ground, trying to help them as they were on fire.

The Malibu was moving so fast, CSP says the officer did not even have a chance to try and stop it.

“When he saw this, he was speeding up and turning on his lights when the vehicle went through the intersection,” master trooper Gary Cutler said.

The impact of the crash sent the Malibu flying, knocking out lights at the intersection.

Leon leaves behind three children ages four, five, and eight, according to Golden police.
