SOCHI, Russia — The United States is now just one win away from taking gold in women’s ice hockey.
The Americans beat Sweden 6-1 in a lopsided Winter Olympics semifinal Monday in Russia’s Shayba Arena, earning a place in Thursday’s gold medal game.
The United States, which fired 70 shots to Sweden’s nine, will next play the winner of Monday’s Canada-Switzerland semifinal.
Only the United States and Canada have won gold in Olympic women’s ice hockey tournaments since their debut in 1998.
