NEW YORK — The Nuggets selected Jamal Murray of the University of Kentucky with the No. 7 pick in the NBA draft Thursday night.

Murray is 19 years old and was the first of three first-round picks the Nuggets had. He’s a 6-foot-4 point guard from Kitchener, Ontario. He entered the NBA draft after his freshman season at Kentucky.

“I knew they liked me, but I didn’t know they liked me as much as they did,” said Murray, who shot 40.8 percent on three-pointers last season.

Murray averaged 20 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists a game last season.

At No. 15, the Nuggets took shooting power forward Juan Hernangomez from Spain. With the 19th pick, the Nuggets took 6-foot-5 shooting guard Malik Beasley of Florida State.

Hernangomez averaged 9.8 points and six rebounds last season for Movistar Estudiantes in Spain. Beasley played one season at Florida State.

In the second round, the Nuggets picked Petr Cornelie with the 53rd pick.
