DENVER — Fans celebrated the Broncos’ 17-15 win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday that marked the first career start for quarterback Brock Osweiler.

“He started out great,” JJ Mueller said at Jackson’s in Lower Downtown. “You know, he was probably a little nervous. His first pass [was] a touchdown.”

Peyton Manning’s foot injury was top of mind for fans.

“I think Peyton needs to get healthy,” Mueller said. “Obviously, Brock’s been watching him for awhile. So hopefully he’s taking a few lessons from him.”

At Stoney’s in the Capitol Hill area, Lisa Martin had high hopes for Osweiler.

“He’s faster,” she said. “He’s quicker. … [And] he shares the same birthday as my son.”

Martin’s son, Jared, is a big Manning fan. But the now 21-year-old said he can’t deny that Osweiler held his own.

“He`s doing good,” Jared Martin said. “He’s doing good.”

At Chopper’s in Cherry Creek, Osweiler’s second cousin, Victor, was watching the game.

“I was hopeful that he would, at some point, take over, of course,” Victor Osweiler said. “He’s been waiting for a long time. And, hopefully, they’ll get a win today.”

And win they did. It was Osweiler’s first career win, completing 20 of 27 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns — on his 25th birthday.

There’s still no word on who will start next weekend, Osweiler or Manning.

“That’s hard,” Mueller said. “I’m a die-hard Peyton Manning fan, but Brock needs his turn. And there’s always the passing of the torch. So maybe this is the time. But I’m good for whatever makes the Broncos win.”
