DENVER (KDVR) — The Denver Broncos played an exciting game for their last game in front of fans at Empower Field at Mile High.
“We were really excited we got to be here. I wish the season could continue with fans. But I understand why they cannot,” Tammy Rowe, Broncos fan who flew in with her family from Butte, Mont. said.
The Miami Dolphins struck first with a touchdown pass to DeVante Parker from Tua Tagovailoa.
Drew Lock threw a touchdown pass to Melvin Gordon III after starting the play with back-to-back false start penalties in the first quarter to tie the game.
Brandon McManus kicked a field goal to put the Broncos up 10-7 in the second quarter. The Dolphins came right back with a field goal on the next possession to tie it up 10-10.
After the two-minute warning, the Broncos hustled down field where McManus hit a 47-yard field goal putting the Broncos up 13-10 at the half.
The weather was sunny with temperatures in the low 50s to high 40s and light wind for the first half of the game.
“Definitely feel blessed that we have the opportunity to come to this game,” Broncos fan, Brienne Heinrichs said.
Melvin Gordon III scored his second touchdown of the game with a 20-yard rush in the third quarter. The extra point by McManus put the Broncos up by 10.
The Broncos defense contained Tagovailoa with six sacks before he was taken out and replaced by Ryan Fitzpatrick in the fourth quarter.
“This is my first NFL game ever. Yeah, so this is going to be different. It would be nice to have 76,000 people here and a full stadium just for the full experience,” Shawn Roach, a Dolphins fan from Salt Lake City, Utah said.
The Dolphins added three with a field goal and despite Gordon’s turnover on the goal line, the Broncos held the Dolphins to win 20-13.
