DENVER — The Rockies traded all-star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki to the Toronto Blue Jays, the team announced Tuesday morning.
Fox Sports Major League Baseball insider Ken Rosenthal and several other outlets reported the trade Monday night after the Rockies lost to the Chicago Cubs, 9-8, at Wrigley Field.
Rockies relief pitcher LaTroy Hawkins was also going to the Blue Jays in exchange for shortstop Jose Reyes and minor leaguer pitching prospects.
Hawkins took to Instagram to express his pleasure of playing for the Rockies.
Tulowitzki was removed from Monday night’s game in Chicago in the ninth inning and reports say Rockies manager Walt Weiss informed the shortstop of the trade at that time.
Tulowitzki, 30, is a five-time All-Star who helped lead the Rockies to the World Series as a rookie in 2007. He is a career .299 hitter and has more than $100 million left on his contract, which runs through 2020.
Reyes has been all-star and the minor leaguers the Rockies are acquiring are highly regarded pitching prospects.
