DENVER — The NHL’s Stadium Series finally comes to Denver this weekend as the Avalanche will play the Detroit Red Wings outdoors at Coors Field.

The stadium hosted a college game between the University of Denver and Colorado College last weekend, but now it’s time for the professionals to take the ice.

On Friday, the Avalanche and Red Wings will play in an alumni game at 5 p.m. The Avalanche and Red Wings then will meet at 6 p.m. Saturday, the 16th outdoor game in the NHL’s Stadium Series.

Festivities will begin at the Spectator Plaza on Blake Street outside of gates C and D at 1 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday. The NHL will host a hockey-themed festival with food, drinks and music.

A limited number of tickets remain for the games. Gates will open two hours before each game.

The NHL is reminding fans to beware of fake jerseys and other merchandise. While some jerseys might look legitimate, the NHL says there are many fake or bootleg items on the market.

Working with the NCAA, NBA and NFL, the NHL, as part of seizure and surrender enforcement, has totaled more than $420 million in phony goods. An NHL attorney said a customer should always take a second look.

“The most important thing is to look for the halogram player names involved,” NHL Enterprises attorney Jia Wang said.

You should also watch out for wrong colors or shade.
