Easy ways to improve your WFH space
The COVID pandemic reshaped the way we look at our jobs, making work-from-home flexibility a high priority for many workers. Between easier care for family and time saved from commuting, working from home has improved the workday for millions. But if you’re still using the same equipment you purchased in 2020, it may be time for a refresh. Improve your ergonomics, get organized or simply keep your coffee warm with these top WFH picks.
Refresh your WFH space
Working from home has its perks, but it takes a little intentionality to create a WFH space that’s functional and productive, especially if you don’t have a room that can serve as a home office. Having clear boundaries is key: Set up a screen divider or a bookcase that can serve as a physical partition between your work area and the rest of the home. If that isn’t doable, try using noise-canceling headphones to send a visual signal that you’re at work.
Try these other tips to refresh and renew your workspace:
- Check your ergonomics. If your body is out of alignment during work hours, it can add to strain, stiffness and joint pain. Try mounting a keyboard tray under your desk or using a laptop stand to raise your screen to eye level.
- Bring in nature. If possible, work in an area where windows can let in natural light. Hang up mirrors to help bounce that light throughout your home. Place some houseplants around the room on bookshelves, plant stands or macrame hangers. Both elements can improve stress levels and overall mental health.
- Reevaluate your storage. Avoid cluttering up your workspace by keeping only the items you use every day on its surface. Other office supplies can be stored in labeled bins in a closet. Use letter trays or hanging file racks to keep projects and important paperwork on hand.
- Energize your senses. Just because your office was drab and dull doesn’t mean your work-from-home space should be. Refresh your surroundings by painting an accent wall in a color that energizes you. Pick an office chair that makes you look and feel like the boss. Even a candle in an invigorating new fragrance can help you get into a productive zone.
