Here are some post-lash lift-approved eye products

Recently, I got my first-ever lash lift and tint. The results were beautifully lifted and darkened yet natural-looking eyelashes, but what I wasn’t prepared for was what they told me right as I headed out the door: “Don’t use any eye beauty products containing oil or alcohol for the next eight weeks.” What?!

I hadn’t properly prepared my product lineup for these new restrictions. Quickly I went home to Google a mascara, eye makeup remover and eye cream I could safely use post-lash lift. Frustrated that there weren’t many resources out there for lash lift customers looking for beauty products that won’t disrupt their treatment results, I did the research and compiled it so you don’t have to.

What to avoid after getting a lash lift and tint

Lash lifts and tints can last up to eight weeks after your treatment, and a big part of how close to that eight weeks you’ll get is how you take care of your eyes post-treatment. The major potentially harmful behaviors to avoid are:

Night 1: Sleeping on your side or stomach

For us side (me!) or stomach sleepers, this is a tough one, so luckily it’s just for the first night. In the first 24 hours after your lash lift, your eyelashes will still be setting, so sleeping on your side or stomach could potentially smush them and disrupt the curl created during your treatment. Do your best to sleep on your back for the first night and you should be good to go after that.

Weeks 1 to 8: Oil- and alcohol-based beauty products

This is a tough one because it may mean taking a break from your favorite mascara or eye cream while you have your lash lift and tint, but if you get more mileage out of your results, it’ll be worth the inconvenience. Check the ingredient lists on your current mascara, eye or face makeup remover and eye or face cream. Are any oils or alcohols listed? If so, you may want to swap for an oil- and alcohol-free version of the product.

There are lots of great oil-free beauty products out there, but what’s harder to find is something that’s both alcohol- and oil-free. In fact, it’s tough to find beauty products that are 100% alcohol-free, since alcohol is often used in small amounts as a preservative. Therefore, we found a handful of products that are fully oil-free, as well as fully or mostly alcohol-free.

Best mascaras to use after a lash lift

Too Faced Better Than Sex Volumizing & Lengthening Mascara

The vegan volumizing and lengthening mascara is applied with a thick brush that perfectly clings to each lash. It contains conditioning peptides and curling polymers to keep your lashes looking shiny and perky. This is my personal favorite mascara for a high-impact look on a night out.

CLINIQUE High Impact Mascara

Swipe on this lengthening and volumizing mascara to create a lusher, bolder lash look. This product is ophthalmologist tested, allergy tested, safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers and free of mineral oil and fragrance.

Tarte Maneater Mascara

If you prefer a less bristly mascara brush, Tarte’s Maneater Mascara may be the best fit for you. The ultra-creamy formula conditions your lashes so it won’t flake, clump or smudge. It’s formulated with jojoba to help hydrate, strengthen and protect lashes, carnuba wax for smooth application with lengthening and volumizing benefits and vitamin E, which is a natural preservative that also acts as an anti-inflammatory emollient and antioxidant.
