Denver — Patti Beranek came to the stage with the band St. Lucia. Patti sang beautifully. In a pause she smiled a sign of the happy, fun, love fest just beginning. With his sneaker game tight Jean-Philip Grobler whose stage name is “St. Lucia” joined the band on stage. On his stage there’s cactus, lights and action. He brought a synth pop montage worthy an 80’s movie and St. Lucia gets it done like Kevin Bacon in FOOTLOOSE.
St. Lucia is energetic and fun, bouncing off the drum riser, dancing, and running around the stage. He did it while hitting every note. The crowd, with their hands up, bounced, swayed and sung along. He performed a few songs alone, including “Call Me Up” with just an acoustic guitar and his hair blowing. The band joined him again on stage. They brought the pace up with “Too Close” and the laser show went crazy. So did the fans.
The energy carried right through to the encore. St. Lucia jumped in the crowd and performed “Love Somebody.” He was carried back to the stage by what he claimed was his first crowd surf. Almost, but never winded he continued at full steam right until the last note of “Elevate.” It certainly was an elevating show and he left his fans jumping with joy. Have a look back at the evening.
