Last week alone, the Red Cross in Colorado responded to flooding in northeastern Colorado, a major apartment fire in Fort Collins, a mudslide near Colorado Springs, and home fires in numerous towns and cities. The Red Cross also deployed more than a dozen local disaster workers to assist with major disaster responses in Texas and Oklahoma.

This is in addition to the daily efforts of Red Cross workers to prepare for the worst and support local community members through programs like Service to the Armed Forces and Restoring Family Links.

On June 2, the American Red Cross is launching its first Giving Day, asking everyone in Colorado & Wyoming to make a donation to the Red Cross to ensure that this type of help is available wherever and whenever people need it.

“Life can change in one day, leaving someone with nothing – without a home, without their belongings, without hope,” said Gino Greco, CEO of the Red Cross Colorado & Wyoming Region. “For so many of these people, the American Red Cross is the answer. We need the public’s support.”

Red Cross Giving Day is a 24-hour national fundraising campaign supporting the work of the Red Cross in communities across the country each and every day. The theme of Giving Day is “All In One Day” because the Red Cross is “all in” every day, helping people to get back on their feet.

Local businesses, individuals and foundations have signed on to the national campaign, pledging matching funds or promoting the campaign to their customers and employees. Multiple Colorado community leaders and philanthropists have contributed a $14,500 pool to match donations on June 2. Ball Corporation and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Colorado are encouraging their employees to donate. And Suncor will run a customer donation program at all 44 of their Colorado retail gas stations from May 6-June 2.
