The first Friday in June is dedicated to National Donut Day. While it’s a great excuse to indulge in a free donut, the delicious day does have a long history. It was first celebrated in 1938 to honor the Salvation Army female volunteers. And in 1917, the original Salvation Army Doughnut was served during WWI by lassies who provided home cooked food to the troops.
