DENVER — With thousands of people inside the Colorado Motorcycle Expo, even many witnesses had a hard time knowing exactly what led to a deadly confrontation.
“I just see a couple people scattered after we heard two gunshots,” said one witness.
After exchanging gunfire, eyewitnesses say the fight continued with knives and fists.
“It all happened on the stairwells and there was a bunch of motorcycle guy s… beating up another on the top of the stairs,” said another.
Though no formal arrests have been made, police handcuffed a person of interest. In all, eight people were taken to the hospital.
“Four individuals were shot, one fatally, one individual was stabbed and three lesser injuries,” Denver Police Chief Robert White said.
During a news conference, White said police are not ready to identify the two clubs involved. Multiple witnesses said one of the clubs is known to have many law enforcement officers as members.
“We have not verified, absolutely that law enforcement was part of one of those clubs,” White said. “Absolutely not from Denver. As it relates to, were there other individuals that might have been involved from other agencies? That is part of the investigation.”
No matter who is involved, many of those we spoke to said the violence has become all too common.
“If you’re a rider you are aware what goes on here so if u see looks between club members it’s time to go,” said one motorcyclist.
