AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — Hundreds marched down Colfax Avenue from Aurora to Denver demanding an end to racism and violence. The event was organized by the Party for Socialism and Liberation and the Frontline Party for Revolutionary Action.

The march began at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Martin Luther King Jr. Public Library located at 9898 E. Colfax Ave. A pre-march rally featured speakers including family members of people who died during or after incidents with police. 

“We are still out here we are still seeking justice for the lives that have been stolen from us in our communities,” PSL member Joel told FOX31.

The Facebook post for the event stated: “Please join the Party for Socialism and Liberation and the Frontline Party for Revolutionary Action on August 30 for a march bringing together Denver and Aurora to demonstrate our unity and determination in the fight against racism and police violence.” 

The group marched about five miles west on Colfax Avenue, ending at City Park. 

“I think that when we’re marching together and we’re sweating and we’re fatigued and we’re shouting and our voices are getting tired but we still keep pushing through it’s very much microcosmic of the struggle that we have lying ahead before us,” Joel said. 

He said the group decided to continue with a march Sunday despite the rise in violence nationwide at similar protests. 

“We planned this with it in mind that we are not going to be deterred by any white supremacist terrorist activity whether it be from the police or from vigilantes themselves,” he said. 

The event remained peaceful. Traffic was the biggest issue stemming from the march. Portions of Colfax Avenue had to be shut down for about an hour. The city of Aurora also had to go on accident alert for part of the early evening due to the march.
