YUMA COUNTY, Colo. — A couple of months ago we shared a story with you about a young cowboy from Yuma and the bond he shared with his disabled heifer.

[You can watch the initial story by clicking here.]

The boy, Ty Weathers, was 5 at the time. His heifer, Hailey, was left paralyzed after giving birth to a calf. After that difficult birth, she could no longer walk.

Despite the heifer’s disability, Ty still cared for her. He would help his father hoist her up in a lift 2 to 3 times a day just so she could move around.

Unfortunately, Hailey eventually passed away. Her death was tough on Ty. After all, he considered Hailey his best friend.

Ty’s parents noticed how heartbroken he was. So to surprise him, they bought him a new heifer as a gift to celebrate his 6th birthday.

Ty turned 6 at the end of October. When his parents gave him the news about the new heifer, he was thrilled!

The new heifer’s name is ‘Diamond’. Ty already confides in her and shares stories with her just like he did with Hailey.

To see what else Ty had to say about ‘Diamond’, watch Kevin Torres‘ update on this ‘Unique 2 Colorado‘ story.
