STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. — Some legends are bigger than the communities they come from. Such is the case in Colorado’s Yampa Valley, where one particular legend has stood tall since the dawn of time.
We’re talking about the legend of the ‘Sleeping Giant’. If you’ve ever driven in or out of Steamboat Springs, you’ve likely seen it to the west.
Its official name is ‘Elk Mountain’, but locals call it ‘The Sleeping Giant’, since it looks like a… sleeping giant!
