LAKE CITY, Colo. — Lake City High School in Hinsdale County is incredibly small. How small? Well, its track team has to practice on dirt roads and ice off in the town’s river.

In the school’s 140 years of history, few of its athletes have ever made it to the State Championships for track. The team’s fan base usually sends a cheer saying, “There’s always next year!”

But this year, the team did something incredible. Not only did the boys and girls teams make it to the State Championships – but when the 4×8 event came up – something incredible happened.
