Lafayette, Colo. — On this Colorado Gives Day, the city of Lafayette is giving something special back to its community: a mid 20th century Coca-Cola mural.
The mural was discovered many months ago inside the wall of an old building. It had been covered up. But the fate of that building involved it being demolished.
Upon tearing down a piece of the building, the city discovered the mural.
Lafayette’s mural committee sprung into action and decided to save the piece of art and clean it up.
“It’s really important to maintain the history of any city, in this case, Lafayette,” said Sally Martin, Chairperson of the mural committee.
The committee spent months fixing the mural up, while it sat inside Lafayette’s Fire Department. Eventually it was moved to old town Lafayette, where it resides at 101 N. Public Road.
Over the weekend, a community-wide celebration was held to thank the folks who helped preserve it.
