CENTENNIAL, Colo. — We continued our road-trip down I-25 exploring businesses, people and places that have made a big impact on Colorado on Wednesday.

Half-way through the week we stopped in Centennial. More specifically: American Furniture Warehouse’s Centennial location.

The furniture store has 12 successful locations sprawled out around Colorado.

American Furniture Warehouse was created in 1975 by Jake Jabs. Jabs grew nervous in the 80s when a recession hit. But his business survived and even grew.

“Since then our business has been growing 10% [each year] since the mid-80s,” he said.

Jabs, who is now 85-years-old still runs his furniture empire and is expanding further into Arizona.

“If you love what you do, have a passion for what you do – it’s not work. There’s an old saying, ‘If you love what you’re doing you may never work a day in your life,'” Jabs said.
