LONGMONT, Colo. — Two men are dead and a woman is in critical condition after a double stabbing late Tuesday night, the Longmont Police Department said.
Police say Omar Martinez, 34, stabbed his mother and 69-year-old father, Epifanio Martinez, before stabbing himself.
Police found a 58-year-old woman stabbed multiple times on Pratt Street and 15th Avenue just before 11 p.m. Tuesday. Paramedics took her to Longmont United Hospital in critical condition.
Neighbors say the suspect ran back inside the house and police called the SWAT team. About two hours later, police sent a robot inside the home and were able to rescue Epifanio Martinez, but he later died from his injuries.
Omar Martinez was found dead from self-inflicted stab wounds.
At one point, officers saw a fire in the kitchen of the house and firefighters were able to put it out. Nearby homes were evacuated because of concern about propane tanks inside, but those restrictions have been lifted.
Police say they were called to the residence Tuesday afternoon to remove one of the suspect’s sons because police were “concerned about the suspect’s mental state.”
The names of the suspect and victims have not been released.
