‘Wheel of Fortune’ returns to Denver in search of contestants for the show

Wheel of Fortune

DENVER — The “Wheel of Fortune” team was back in Denver on Tuesday holding call-backs for potential contestants.

In May, the Wheel-mobile was in town, looking for some awesome Colorado “Hangman” players. Those who made the call-back list gathered on the 16th Street Mall for a couple of rounds to see who would move on to play the game with Pat and Vanna.

“I just love the game,” Stacy Roquemore said. “I have tried out four times … the one in Miami was on 9/11, so you can understand why I couldn’t concentrate on the game very much. But I will try until I can’t spell anymore, I want to win.”

For most, “Wheel” is a game to play during dinner, but when the music ques up and the wheel gets a spin, all bets are off and the pressure is on.

This reporter — who is more into “Jeopardy” —took a crack at the game America loves … and there’s way too much to think about. And then there’s the spelling end of the game.

After Round 1 on Tuesday, 28 of the 75 gathered were given a second call-back, the others were thanked for trying to represent Denver. Those who stayed played on as talent scouts looked for energy, smiles and “playability.”

If you get a letter in the mail in the next couple of weeks, you will be given a date and time to report to Wheel Central. If not, you will be encouraged to try again later.

And don’t look for this reporter on the show. We can’t play because we work for a station airing the iconic show. You can see it each weeknight on FOX31 Denver at 6:30 p.m. right after “Jeopardy.”
