BYERS, Colo. — It’s the incredible story of one very lucky porker who was likely on his way to slaughter.
He literally fell off a stock truck traveling on Interstate 25. He survived the tumble with only minor scratches. The truck driver never stopped.
The Weld County Sheriff’s Department took protective custody of the pig, and he stayed at the Colorado University Veterinarian Hospital.
Erin Brinkley-Burgardt saw the pig’s plight on television and reacted, “I just wanted him to be saved.”
It just so happens that Brinkely-Burgardt loves pigs. Not on a spit, but at her home in Byers, Colo., called Hog Haven.
“Hog Haven Farm is a rescue and sanctuary for primarily pot-bellied pigs,” she explains.
The Weld County Sheriff’s Office animal control called Burgardt and asked her if she wanted the pig, to have and to hold. She said yes. Now she has full legal custody, as nobody made a claim within the seven day grace period.
He survived a death defying leap from a moving truck on the interstate, dodges the slaughterhouse, winds up on a pro-pig farm that finds porkers precious, and will spend the rest of his natural life in sweet, peaceful slop. Yeah, this little piggy went wee wee wee all the way home.
