CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — A bizarre wildlife sighting is all the buzz in the Founders Village neighborhood of Castle Rock.

A peacock has been living near the corner of Bennington Avene and Andover Avenue  since Saturday morning. Its owners say the colorful bird got loose from their pen over the weekend after being spooked by a coyote. The bird traveled about 8 miles before resting in Founders Village.

“When I saw it on Facebook I was like no way this is happening,” Castle Rock resident Eian McKinley said.

Peacock sightings have lit up social media. Neighbors have started affectionately calling him “Lucas on the Loose” and “Waldo.” He has a Facebook group, YouTube videos and his own website.

The peacock stays on roofs most of the time. He flies from one to the next. He also can be seen walking down the streets, sidewalks and in yards.

His owners have been trying to catch their peacock since Saturday. They say it is very difficult because he flies away every time they try to capture him. They have been working with Douglas County Animal Control to find a solution, but have not been successful. They are asking other counties who may have more resources to help.

The owners have left food out for the peacock to eat while they try to capture him. They ask are asking people to not feed their peacock as it could be harmful to his health.
