DENVER — Police said late Thursday night they found the tractor trailer that hit several bridges on northbound Interstate 25 Thursday afternoon without stopping. Three lanes of the highway had to close for almost three hours while crews made sure the bridges were still safe.
Police said the case was under investigation. They did not say anything about the status of the driver.
The semi-truck was towing an excavator when it hit the bottom of several concrete overpasses on the highway around 2 p.m. on northbound I-25. The truck hit bridges at Speer Boulevard, 20th Street, 23rd Avenue and 84th Avenue.
Police spent hours looking for a white semi that was hauling a yellow excavator on its trailer. You can see it at the top of the pictures above.
Three lanes were closed for cleanup and inspection of the bridges, but they were reopened just before 4 p.m.
The bridges hit at 20th Street and 84th Avenue only experienced scrapes to the outer surfaces and did not get hit in a way to sustain structural damages, according to CDOT.
