WINDSOR, Colo. — An employee with Windsor was shot and killed on a Weld County road Monday morning while riding his bicycle.

A passerby found 48-year old John Jacoby dead about 10 a.m. on County Road 15 near County Road 72. Windsor police don’t know how long his body had been there.

“In a town that is very calm, something like this unusual and certainly we’re going to take every step we can to get to the bottom of it and find out exactly what happened,” Windsor police Lt. Rich Higuera said. “We’re not excluding anything at this point.  We’re going to investigate all possibilities.”

Higuera said investigators are not ruling out the possibility the shooting is related to the case of a 20-year-old woman who was shot while driving on Interstate 25 near Windsor last month.

“Our patrols are always very active and we’ll continue to be active in all areas of town,” Higuera said.

Jacoby was shot twice. There are no suspects or leads.

“He was a good kid.  He didn’t deserve this,” said Bertha Jacoby, a close family friend.  “It’s just something that shouldn’t have happened because he never hurt a soul.”

Jacoby had two part-time jobs, working at King Soopers and for Windsor as a park caretaker.

He loved cheering for the Broncos and riding his bicycle around town.

“He wouldn’t hurt a flea,” Jacoby said.  “I keep asking myself why?  Why God? Why?”

The last homicide in Windsor occurred eight years ago.
