GOLDEN, Colo. — Four minors being held at the Lookout Mountain Youth Services Center assaulted a staffer and escaped from the detention center late Saturday before being recaptured some 10 miles away in Wheat Ridge, Golden police said.
The four male teens, aged 17, 17, 15 and 14, allegedly overpowered a 65-year-old staffer and escaped detention just before midnight, the Golden Police Department reported. Reports indicated the staff member was hit with a rock or other object. His condition was unknown.
Dozens of police officers, including SWAT and air support, responded to the area of 2901 Ford St. An alert was issued to all law enforcement agencies in the Denver metro area. An emergency call also went out to homes in the area of the facility.
The teens remained at large until about 7 a.m. Sunday, when officers from the Wheat Ridge Police Department saw the suspects walking through Hayward Park, near the WRPD station. They arrested the teens, who were returned to Golden for processing.
