Teen’s family wants feds to take over investigation into deadly Denver police shooting

Jessie Hernandez

DENVER — The family of the teenage girl that police shot and killed on Monday now want the federal government to get involved in the case.

Jessie Hernandez, 17, was allegedly in a stolen car in an alley near East 25th Avenue and Niagara Street Monday morning when officers say she tried to run over them. They shot and killed her.

Her family says they don’t trust Denver police to do a fair and timely investigation into the shooting.

The police department is conducting an internal investigation but the family wants the U.S. attorney to take over the case.

Hernandez’ family is represented by a high profile attorney who has successfully sued Denver police and the sheriff’s department for millions of dollars in excessive force cases.
