GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. — The Cherry Creek Schools administration building was evacuated Tuesday because a suspicious piece of mail contained an unknown powder, district spokeswoman Tustin Amole said.
The building near South Yosemite Street and East Union Avenue was evacuated about 4 p.m. After more than five hours, hazardous materials experts determined the powder was harmless.

The Araphoe County Bomb Squad and the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority hazardous materials team investigated the powder, and an expert team from Buckley Air Force Base was also on scene to offer support.
Officials are awaiting test results to determine exactly what the substance was, but it was determined to be nonhazardous.
The response was large, but appropriate as a matter of caution, officials said. Normal operations will resume at the administration building Wednesday morning.
