DENVER — Two men charged for vandalism of the Fallen Officer Memorial at Denver police headquarters last month appeared in court Monday.

Robert Guerrero, 25, and Matthew Goldberg, 23, are charged with criminal mischief, defacing public property, desecration of a venerated and resisting arrest.

The two are accused of defacing the memorial with red paint on Feb. 14, then resisting arrest.

The vandalism occurred during a protest against recent Denver police shootings. The red paint was quickly washed away.

The next day, the Denver Police Protective Association and the Fraternal Order of Police called for Denver Police Chief Robert White to resign over how the department handled the event.
