DENVER — The family of a carjacking victim is worried one of the suspects in the case may try to hurt them.

The young Denver mother and her 2-year-old son were carjacked at gunpoint last month. She says the gunman pointed the weapon at the little boy’s head and demanded her keys. Another suspect drove a second vehicle away from the scene.

Investigators say 21-year-old Andre Garcia was behind the wheel of the stolen car a few hours later and crashed it trying to escape from police.

He was arrested and then released by a Denver County judge on a personal recognizance bond, basically a promise to appear at required court hearings. Garcia was scheduled to appear in court Friday morning but did not and a warrant is out for his arrest.

It’s not the first time he’s skipped court. This was his fourth arrest since July. He was on probation out of Jefferson County at the time of the carjacking.

He was arrested in Denver in July, transferred to Jefferson County on unrelated charges and released after he posted a $1,000 bond there.

He was arrested again in August in Denver and released with a GPS tracking device. It was removed when those charges were dropped.

And he was arrested in Denver on October 14 and released again. He was supposed to get another tracking device but did not and the carjacking occurred the next day.

After failing to appear in court Friday, Garcia once again is a fugitive.
