DENVER — The suspect accused of shooting Denver Police Officer Tony Lopez Jr. was formally charged with attempted first degree murder Wednesday.
Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey filed that charge against Jason Wood, 36, along with two counts of first-degree assault and robbery.
The charges allege Wood shot Lopez on December 8 during a traffic stop near Federal Boulevard and Clyde Place, and then carjacked a vehicle in an attempt to escape.
Police caught Wood a short time later near 20th and Chestnut streets after a brief chase.
He remains in custody; his bond is set at $500,000 on the attempted murder charge and he also has a $50,000 bond set for a separate robbery case.
He’s scheduled to appear in court Friday morning for formal advisement of the charges related to the shooting of the officer.
