MORRISON, Colo. — If you had any doubts about the power of social media, this story will reinforce its strength.

It’s a moment that only comes once in a loving relationship — the proposal.

A Denver couple got engaged in front of thousands at Red Rocks amphitheater on Saturday night.

Mike Parks, 32, and Tracie Bardonner, 33, had it all on video, until Parks accidentally deleted it. Not to worry, a stranger ended up saving the day.  Like any relationship, there are ups and downs.

“I didn’t mean to delete the video, purely accidental. I was very disappointed when I did that,” Parks said.

Parks and Bardonner are not letting a little mistake detract from the most sparkling night of their lives. Parks proposed with a diamond his father, a master goldsmith from Wheat Ridge, gave him 10 years ago. He just needed to find the right girl. And he finally did.

“Next thing I knew he got on one knee in front of me. The guy next to us, looks like he’s taking our picture, What’s he doing?’ I look at Mike. He had a ring out and it sparkles. He asked me to marry him. I said yes,” Bardonner said.

It happened in front of thousands at the Blues Traveler concert. A moment they captured on Parks’ cellphone — until he accidentally deleted it.

“I said ‘no!’ So at least we watched it over and over. So it’s stuck in our heads,” Bardonner said.

Then, he read a Facebook message from a friend.

“I had a friend from work, ‘Is this you?’ It was a news story with the picture. I was like, yeah,” Parks said.

That picture came from a total stranger, Janene Pudwill, visiting Colorado from South Dakota. She emailed saying she would love for the couple to have the picture, writing: “I’m sure it would mean a lot to them.”

“Means a lot to us, I know that, for just taking that picture, that’s something that will be with us,” Parks said.

“We looked like there was a perfect light on us and everyone was looking and you see the rocks,” Bardonner said.

“It’s a pretty special moment between Tracie and I. For someone else to become involved in it,” Parks said.

They say they couldn’t be more grateful. It’s a perfect picture that makes up for imperfect cell phone use.

“It’s sweet. Someone took the time to seek us out. … It was a special night,” Bardonner said.
