DENVER — When a cold day blows into town, not even the weather can keep people from helping people. Thanksgiving Day 2015 saw thousands of volunteers roll out for those in need. From the Salvation Army to Volunteers for America, the spirit of giving was in the cold air over Mile High.

“We will serve thousands today here at the Colorado Convention Center,” said Lt. Col. Dan Sarrett with the Salvation Army. “Any food left over will go to our homeless shelters.”

Which is where many living on the streets stayed yesterday, just to keep their spot in the shelters. So, to help them out, The Squeaky Bean took over the North Denver tradition begun at Rosalinda’s on Tejon Street.

“We only decided to do this five weeks ago, and were able to pull it off with the help of folks from Warren Tech Cooking School and dozens of top chefs from around the metroplex,” said Jon Ballen. “We will deliver some 3,000 dinners this year and next year will ramp it up to about 6,000.”

People with hearts in the right place for sure.

And, at Jackson’s LoDo, clothes from the ARC were an added plus for the visitors from the streets. Warm clothes and a hot meal to begin the day, just the right way to do things on Turkey Day ’15.
