DENVER — The sister of injured Denver Police Officer Tony Lopez Jr. said blood donations saved her brother’s life, and asked the public to donate.

Meghan Lopez spoke at a news conference Thursday afternoon at Denver Health.

She said Officer Lopez is “doing better than any of us could have ever anticipated,” and thanked everyone who helped her brother.

Lopez is talking and asking questions about the Tuesday shooting that left him severely injured.

The shooting happened during a traffic stop in northwest Denver. One suspect and a person of interest are both in police custody.

Lopez has another major surgery scheduled for Friday.

Denver Mayor Michael Hancock tweeted a photo with Lopez at Denver Health on Tuesday afternoon.
