AURORA, Colo. — Officers followed a trail of blood to track down a man who tried to hold up an armored car on Monday morning, the FBI said.

The 38-year-old man tried to rob an armored truck parked outside the Wells Fargo Bank at 999 S. Sable Blvd. at about 7:45 a.m., the FBI said in a statement.

The suspect and a security guard fired shots, the FBI said. The suspect was shot and ran to an apartment complex to hide.

At about 8:30 a.m., Aurora police said they were looking for at least one suspect near Sable and South Cimarron Way, and asked people in the Retreat at City Center to stay indoors.

A few minutes later, police said they had detained the suspect. The FBI said Aurora officers found the man after following a trail of blood.

The suspect surrendered and was taken to a hospital. He is expected to survive, the FBI said.

The suspect’s name and photo are not being released because the investigation is ongoing.

Police were believed to have been searching for a second suspect but said at about 9:10 a.m. that no more suspects were being sought.
