LONGMONT, Colo. — A man accused of pulling what was later determined to be a pellet gun on a police officer during a traffic stop was arrested just Monday night after an intense four-hour manhunt.
Police said said an officer fired one shot after Levi Rosales pointed what appeared to be a scoped rifle at him after being pulled over in the 100 block of Elk Place just before 5 p.m. because he was suspected of being involved in an earlier reported theft and an unrelated disturbance.
Rosales went down, then got back up and fled. At the time, police said they didn’t know if he was shot. The officer was not hurt.
Rosales, 31, was found hiding in a garage attic having suffered what the Longmont Police Department described as a minor gunshot wound to the abdomen.
He was transported to Longmont United Hospital and later released, then booked in the Boulder County Jail on a an affidavit for first-degree burglary, criminal attempted first-degree assault, felony menacing and resisting arrest. Bond was set at $500,000.
Rosales’ family spoke with police during the search, which shut down several blocks along Lashley Street between Ninth Avenue and Mountain View.
Rosales was apprehended just before 9 p.m. after being found in the rafters of a detached garage in the 100 block of Telluride Place. The scoped rifle was found in a burglarized home near the shooting and it was determined to be a realistic-looking scoped pellet rifle.
Several homeowners were told to shelter in place during the search.
The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation, which is standard policy.
