AURORA, Colo. — After three days of searching for a teenage girl from Aurora, police are asking the public for help and adding that they have received information that leads them to be concerned about her safety.

Lashaya Nae Stine left home on her own just after 2 a.m. on July 15, but her mother, Sabrina Jones, said she still can’t understand why.

“She’s a good girl. She’s never given me any trouble. She’s never given me any reason to believe that she would go walking off somewhere,” Jones said, adding that Lashaya was a straight A student with a job interview lined up the next day.

Aurora police Chief Nick Metz said detectives know Lashaya met someone after leaving the house and a surveillance camera put her near North Middle School at 2:30 a.m.

Metz said police can’t reveal much more about the information they’ve learned, but added there is a reason why several agencies have been called in to search.

“We have received information that is causing us to be of much greater concern for her safety,” Metz said. “We get runaway reports all the time. … Something happened in the information we got here that’s a little bit different.”

But that information still hasn’t turned up any sign of Lashaya, and with search teams out of places to look, they’re now looking for help from the public.

“Any little bit of information is helpful,” Metz said, adding this case is the department’s highest priority. “What may seem as nothing to you may mean everything to us in solving this investigation.”

“I just want my baby girl back and if someone is preventing that please, I’m begging you please,” Jones said. “Just let my baby go.”

Anyone with information on Lashaya’s whereabouts or information that could help with the case, call 911.
