DENVER — The first day of school choice week ended with some parents supporting and other protesting how we choose schools for our children.
Colorado is an open enrollment state which means parents can take part in the school choice program.
They can select from regular schools, charter schools, magnet schools, online academies, private schools or home-schooling.
Parents are divided over the program.
“No one wants to see their children fail. We all want our kids to succeed at the end of the day. So I think it’s great ’cause I don’t know what there is to protest,” one parent said during an event at the Capitol in downtown Denver.
“You have to do a little research on charter schools to find out how dangerous they are and how little accountability they have,” another parent said.
About 50 percent of Denver families participate in school choice week.
