CENTENNIAL, Colo.— Saudi Arabia is seeking the return of one of its citizens serving a prison sentence in Colorado for treating his housekeeper as a slave.

A hearing was set for Thursday to determine whether Homaidan al-Turki will be handed over to Saudi Arabian officials, the Denver Post reported. The Saudi embassy wants al-Turki to return home to serve his punishment, but Colorado officials have resisted because he has been uncooperative, refusing to undergo sex offender treatment.

It’s likely that al-Turki’s crimes would be treated more leniently in Saudi Arabia.

Al-Turki was convicted in 2006 of unlawful sexual contact by use of force and other charges. Prosecutors said he sexually assaulted a housekeeper and kept her as a virtual slave for four years.

Earlier this year, investigators floated a theory that al-Turki may have had some involvement in the death of Department of Corrections head Tom Clements, but that avenue was later abandoned.
