A top Republican official cited Twilight Sparkle while disputing claims that Melania Trump plagiarized a Michelle Obama speech.
Tuesday morning, Donald Trump’s campaign denied the allegations that Melania Trump plagiarized part of her speech at the Republican National Convention.
Tuesday afternoon, the RNC’s chief strategist, invoked “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” in defending the speech in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.
Sean Spicer stated:
“We had a 2,000-word statement. We’re talking about 70 words, three passages. Okay. And this idea of plagiarism if we want to talk about it, let’s talk about it. Melania Trump said, ‘You work hard for what you get in life.’ John Legend said, ‘Work hard to be anything you want in life.’ Kid Rock said, ‘Work hard to be anything you want in life.’ Melania Trump said, ‘The strength of your dreams and work for them.’ And Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony said, ‘This is your dream. Anything you can do in your dream you can do now.’ I mean if we want to take a bunch of phrases and run through a Google and say, ‘Hey who else had said them?’ I can come up with a list in five minutes.”
The reaction on Twitter swifter than Rainbow Dash and sillier than Applejack.
Comparisons of the transcripts show the text in Trump’s address following nearly to the word Obama’s speech from the first night of the Democratic convention nearly eight years ago.
After the accusations were made, Twitter users posted hilarious comments and memes.
Users also began attributing famous quotes to Trump using the hashtag #FamousMelaniaTrumpQuotes.
