DENVER — For the third time in as many years, Riot Fest has announced a new Colorado home.

The annual rock festival will move to the National Western Complex when it returns to Denver on Aug. 28-30, the festival announced Thursday. It will now be known as Riot Fest & Rodeo.

The 2013 edition of the fest was held at May Farms in Byers, but Arapahoe County refused to let it return in 2014, citing “traffic impacts and public safety concerns” at the last minute. So Riot Fest 2014 was hastily shuffled to the parking lot of Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

While the Sports Authority event went off relatively smoothly, there was one hangup: Many fans had made arrangements to camp at the Byers site, and there were no similar accommodations available in the heart of Denver.

So it’s notable that the National Western Complex will allow fans to stay in RVs onsite this summer. This year’s festival may also include a barbecue cookoff and other new events.

In past years, Riot Fest has featured bands ranging from The Cure and Weezer to the Wu-Tang Clan, drawing up to 20,000 people per day. The 2015 lineup has not yet been announced. Some tickets will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.
