PUEBLO, Colo. — A Pueblo Police Department K-9 sniffed out more than a million dollars in cocaine during a traffic stop on Saturday. This is the second time in just over a month that this same dog has made a bust this size.
A Pueblo officer pulled over a vehicle spotted weaving on northbound on I-25 entering Pueblo.
During the traffic stop investigation, K-9 Widget conducted an open-air sniff around the vehicle and detected narcotics, according to a statement released by the police department.
“The vehicle was then transported to a secure location to be searched. During that process, officers were able to locate ten hidden packages containing cocaine with an estimated street value of $1,082,100,” police stated.
The vehicle was traveling from Mexico to Denver and was driven by Jose Alonso Calderon Garcia, 34, police said.
Garcia was arrested and transported to the Pueblo County Detention Center to face charges of Possession of a Schedule II with intent to distribute.
Just last month, K-9 Widget was credited with finding 10 kilos of cocaine after a traffic stop, the Pueblo Police Department said. Police said the drugs were worth $1.1 million on the street.
