PUEBLO, Colo. — A K-9 is credited with finding 10 kilos of cocaine after a traffic stop, the Pueblo Police Department said.
Officers spotted a maroon Saturn speeding on Interstate 25, police said. Officers got permission to search the vehicle and brought in K-9 Widget to do an “open air sniff,” police said.
Widget detected the odor of illegal narcotics, and the vehicle was relocated and searched, investigators said.
That’s when investigators found the cocaine in a hidden compartment.
Police said the drugs are worth $1.1 million on the street. The driver, Edgar Florez-Valenzuela, 27, was arrested and booked in the Pueblo County Detention Center.
Florez-Valenzuela is expected to be charged with drug possession with intent to distribute. He is being held on a $200,000 cash-only bond.
